Description
Bunya no Watamaro was a samurai who fought against the government in the late 12th century. In this print, he is shown with his followers surrendering to the government forces. The print is part of the series ‘A Mirror of Great Warriors of Japan’ by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, which depicts famous warriors and battles from Japanese history. The print is a color woodblock print and measures 13 7/16 x 9 3/16 in. (34.2 x 23.3 cm). It is part of the Japanese Art collection at the museum and is credited to the Herbert R. Cole Collection.
